PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION:
He graduated with a bachelor of science degree from Nogales Federal Preparatory School, and received his medical degree from the Universidad Autonoma of Guadalajara, Inc. Following an internship at Hermosillo General Hospital in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico, Dr. Gonzalez-Osete was a resident in internal medicine at Hospital Espanol de Mexico, where he was named chief resident. He then did a fellowship in hematology and oncology at the University of Arizona Cancer Center. On completion of his Fellowship he stayed at the University of Arizona as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine for four years. During this time he was part of the bone marrow transplant team. He was sent to the Fred Hutchinson Cancer and Bone Marrow Transplant Center in Seattle, Washington, where he furthered his BMT experience and training. During his term at the Cancer Center he was actively involved and cared for more than 300 bone marrow transplant patients, as well as participated in the multidisciplinary teams involved with breast, lung and neurological malignancies. Dr. Gonzalez-Osete was also responsible for treating and caring of all other hematological and oncological diseases. Prior to joining Arizona Oncology Associates, Dr. Gonzalez-Osete held a variety of teaching positions at the University of Arizona, National Autonomous University of Mexico and Hospital Seguro Social in Nogales. Dr. Gonzalez-Osete is fluent in Spanish and English.
CERTIFICATIONS:
Dr. Gonzalez-Osete is board certified in medical oncology and internal medicine.
HONORS:
Dr. Gonzalez-Osete has received several awards during his career including the Connell Fellowship Award and the Outstanding Oncology Fellow Award. He has authored numerous articles which have been published in the American Journal of Medicine, Oncology Times, Revista Gastroenterologia Mexicana and Journal of Clinical Oncology, and has contributed chapters to several books on critical care medicine, hematology and oncology. In addition to being widely-published, Dr. Gonzalez-Osete has been invited to present at a variety of meetings and conferences on topics ranging from lung cancer to blood banking and transfusions. Dr. Gonzalez-Osete currently serves as the hematology & oncology section chairman, as well as the blood transfusion committee chairman at St. Mary’s Hospital.
