PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION:
Dr. Modiano obtained his B.S. degree summa cum laude from Colegio Columbia in Mexico City and graduated medical school with honors from the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico. He completed an internal medicine externship and residency at the University of Wisconsin, Mount Sinai Medical Center, where he also served as chief resident for a year. He then completed a Hematology-Oncology Fellowship at the University of Arizona-Arizona Cancer Center, where he served as chief fellow. During his tenure at the University of Arizona, Dr. Modiano was the director of the gastro-intestinal oncology program as well as of the minority cancer control program.
HONORS:
Dr. Modiano serves as director of research for Arizona Oncology Associates and as medical director of Arizona Clinical Research Center. He is the past chief of the Division of Hematology and Oncology, and past president of the Medical Staff at Carondelet St. Mary’s Hospital in Tucson. He is the immediate past president of The Arizona Clinical Oncology Society and is the immediate past president of Arizona Oncology Associates, HOP Division. Dr. Modiano was appointed as a Commissioner to the Arizona Biomedical Research Commission by Governor Napolitano in 2006. Dr. Modiano has published many peer-reviewed articles and has made multiple presentations at national and international meetings. He has received numerous research and community service awards including the Surgeon General Certificate of Merit. Personal interests include his family, ranching, cattle and equestrian activities and his Harley.
