PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION:
He earned an associate of arts degree from Central Arizona College in Florence, Arizona, and a Ph.D. and a medical degree from University of Chicago. He completed residency in internal medicine at University of Arizona Department of Medicine, where he served as chief resident. He was a fellow in hematology and oncology at University of Arizona Health Sciences Center, before being named chief fellow.Prior to joining Arizona Oncology Associates, Dr. Porterfield was an assistant professor of clinical medicine at Southern Arizona VA Health Care Systems and University Medical Center in Tucson.
CERTIFICATIONS:
Dr. Porterfield is board certified in internal medicine and medical oncology.
HONORS:
Among his many honors, Dr. Porterfield received The Charles. W. Hall Jr. Memorial Award, Coronary Care Unit Resident of the Year from the University of Arizona College of Medicine. His articles have been published in The Fellow Reporter, Seminars in Urologic Oncology, Somatic Cell & Molecular Genetics and Journal of Biological Chemistry.
