Chemotherapy

Chemotherapy is the treatment of cancer with drugs that can destroy cancer cells. Normal cells grow and die in a controlled way. When cancer occurs, the cancer cells keep dividing and forming more cancer cells. Chemotherapy destroys cancer cells by preventing them from growing or multiplying. Side effects result when the surrounding healthy cells are also harmed. Non cancerous cells usually repair themselves after chemotherapy.

The type of chemotherapy you receive will depend on the type of cancer you have, where the cancer is found, and the effect on your normal body functions. Your cancer care specialists at Arizona Oncology will recommend a treatment plan that will work best for you. In many instances chemotherapy will be used in addition to surgery and radiation.
